Boarer's Farm

Project: Boarer's Farm, Minster on Sea, Kent
The project involved the transformation of Boarers Farm, a historic farmhouse, into a fully accessible forever home tailored to the needs of a young resident with complex mobility requirements. Commissioned by Steven Docker Associates, the scheme focused on delivering a sustainable, inspiring and highly functional living environment. Astral Ltd was appointed as principal contractor to deliver a sensitively designed extension and barn conversion that prioritised dignity, independence and long-term comfort, while respecting the character of the existing buildings.
The works included the construction of a new single and two-storey extension providing carers’ accommodation, an assisted en-suite, a spacious bedroom with automated doors and blinds, and a purpose-built hydrotherapy pool to support rehabilitation and wellbeing. The adjoining barn was carefully adapted through roof elevation and structural alterations to enable level flooring, improved wheelchair mobility and enhanced internal flow. Sustainability was embedded throughout the project through the installation of solar energy systems, on-site waste recycling facilities and improved external access routes designed to ensure safe and effortless wheelchair navigation, creating a truly future‑proof home.
