​Project:  Masters House, Sheerness, Kent

The Masters House on Trinity Road, Sheerness, was the subject of a comprehensive low-carbon refurbishment delivered by Astral Ltd as principal contractor for Swale Borough Council. One of Astral's most technically ambitious projects, the scheme involved a complete refit of this historic office building, valued at over £1.4 million and completed in 2024.

Works began with a full strip-out before a programme of roof repairs, replacement of all 87 windows and external doors, and insulated wall linings throughout transformed the thermal performance of the building envelope.

 

The defining feature of the project was its low-carbon mechanical strategy, centred on air source heat pumps for space heating, supplemented by a solar PV installation, full ventilation system, and LED lighting — positioning the building as a model for sustainable public sector refurbishment.

 

Internal works included a new passenger lift for DDA-compliant access, fitted kitchenettes, and fully refurbished WC facilities.
