St Nicholas Church, Strood

Project: St Nicholas Church, Strood, Kent
St Nicholas Church in Strood town centre was the subject of a comprehensive internal re-ordering delivered by Astral Ltd as main contractor, transforming the entire main worship space, lower hall, and ancillary areas whilst the church remained in partial use throughout. Works were carefully coordinated with the church, its organ builder, and a specialist AV contractor — requiring sensitivity to the ongoing needs of an active congregation at every stage.
The fixed pew arrangement was removed to create a flexible worship space, with the nave floor relaid in solid oak featuring a distinctive marquetry inlay around a new Portland Stone font base. New flooring was also installed throughout the lower hall and kitchen, alongside a new curved chancel dais, oak-framed kitchenette enclosure with fully fitted appliances, dedicated storage enclosures, and new wheelchair-accessible doors between the church and hall. A comprehensive electrical and AV upgrade was delivered in parallel, including underground AV ducting laid under archaeological watching brief.
Astral subsequently returned to carry out further follow-on works to the entrance doors, reflecting the ongoing trust placed in Astral as a continuing partner to the church.
